“Strengthening Pakistan’s Digital Future: PTCL’s Africa-1 Submarine Cable Set to Transform Connectivity”

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PSX: PTC) is set to host a groundbreaking ceremony on February 22, 2025, marking the arrival of the high-capacity Africa-1 Submarine Cable at its designated landing site at Sea View, Karachi.

This milestone signifies a major leap in enhancing Pakistan’s digital connectivity and telecommunications infrastructure. PTCL has been making annual investments in the Africa-1 submarine cable project since 2021 as part of its capital expenditure (CAPEX).

As of 2025, nearly 75% of the total investment has been completed over four years, with the full project cost expected to be met within the year. The company aims to achieve Ready for Service (RFS) status for the project in Q1 2026, according to its latest filing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

Once operational, the Africa-1 submarine cable will enable PTCL to generate revenue from the project, significantly boosting its top-line growth. The Board of Directors had approved an investment of $59.5 million for the initiative in November 2020.
